Title: Challenges and Opportunities of Computing Education and Research

Abstract:

Computing and networking systems have been widely used in almost every sector of society. However, they are limited by their capabilities in terms of security, reliability, performance, and scale-ability. We will discuss the various challenges posed by the design and implementation of the computing and networking systems. We will introduce several major initiatives taken which aim to address these challenges. Examples of such initiatives include the Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation.

Title: The Evolution of Ambient SOC and its Impact to Embedded System

Abstract:

The development of semiconductor technology plays a key role for the coming digital life. The integration of nano-technology and communication technology creates the convergence and divergence of rich remarkable applications. System-on-chip (SOC) offers highly cost-effective performance with power saving features and becomes the most feasible solution for ICT products. To meet the performance and time-to-market requirements, platform base design with embedded system has been developed. Recently, more and more ubiquitous devices and sensors are integrated into SOC to provide more convenient and interactive capability of ICT applications. This is indeed the realization of ambient era. In this talk, the evolution of semiconductor, communication and ambient technologies will be addressed. The roadmap and progressing of those developments will be described. Last but not least, what will be the impact to embedded system because of the rapid growth of Ambient SOC will also be expressed.
