Road Traffic Light Controller (RTLC)

Traffic lights are basic and necessary components in modern traffic systems. They work by following certain traffic rules and give indication to drivers and pedestrians so the traffic systems can have higher performance.

With a SMARTER Road Traffic Light Controller(RTLC),the possibility of getting traffic jams will decrease and the traffic will become more smooth. The RTLC will automatically change the traffic light by following parameters, which are preloaded defaults and can be adjusted by software lately. RTLC can be interrupted by several events, like policemen want to control the traffic light manually or pedestrians may have higher priority to across the road etc.

We will implement the traffic light controller in SW and HW parts:

• HW:
  1. Basic control function - Obeying time parameter and changing traffic light automatically.
  2. Accepting new parameters from software.
  3. Accepting interrupting request from manual devices.
• SW:
  1. Adjusting parameters by adapting traffic condition.
