Abstract
Adlets are metadata representation of various kinds of
documents available on the Internet. Adlets can be
autonomous; they can travel among various sites
and communicate with one another to satisfy a
specific need of information retrieval. Protocols
specify their behavior. This paper first presents
itinerary diagrams which informally specify
protocols. We then show how a state-based model
can be constructed from a given itenerary diagram.
This formal model can be used to simulate the
behavior of adlets.
